Muslim Jami
President DOGANA 2009

Dear Dowites

I am very fortunate to be working with enthusiastic and talented Executive Council this year. A thoughtful reflection of past few years makes it evident that we were bogged down by trivial personal politics and political differences. I strongly feel that we need to get away from that trend towards a healthy and united DOGANA.

Our last few summer meetings were consumed by electoral campaigns and politics. Fortunately this year’s elections will be conducted by ballots and in October and November. This will allow us to have both of our retreat and summer meetings in friendly and cordial atmosphere.

We are looking forward to having a productive retreat in Chicago. Please join us with friends and family. It is a great opportunity for Dowites to network, meet old friends and classmates, reminisce about old times and to reevaluate our goals and objectives. Besides having an educational, festive and friendly gathering, our goal is to have an earnest and honest dialogue among the interested Dowites for the future direction of this organization. I also hope that we can foster interest and participation of many members who are usually not interested in affairs of DOGANA.

This year our committee members represent wide spectrum of DOGANA. Many of them are here for the first time, bringing fresh ideas and energy that will help DOGANA to accomplish its goals according to the wishes of the members.

We have appointed talented and responsible Dowites with superb track record as chairpersons of the committees. The CME committee this year is expected to organize excellent CME program at our meetings, help design web based CME events, and revitalize Visiting Faculty Program at DUHS. We have asked our colleagues in Karachi to be involved in arranging these events at DUHS and other institutions. We have established DUHS Research Advisory Forum to allow junior researchers at DUHS to receive counseling and guidance from their senior colleagues in the US in their field of interest.

We have planned three publications for this year for the members. Every member is invited to submit articles for the publication. The committee will be responsible for selecting the articles of highest interest to the readers. The Membership committee will continue its work of growing the membership, updating member information, update database and to simplify online registration process for the membership. The CABL committee will start working on the policies and procedures. We have appointed several colleagues held in high esteem by their peers to the Ethics and Grievance Committee and the Board of Trustees.

The Young Physician Task Force will continue to help new physicians arriving in the US and Canada with visa issues, job search and career counseling. We will try to expedite the Dow Scholarship Program to assist medical students, physicians or physician’s children in need of educational funding.

The Social Forum has been a popular event at the summer meeting and has generated significant interest, not only among Dowites but APPNA members as well. We have selected a passionate team this year. And I am confident that they will meet or even exceed our expectations by organizing another interesting and thought-provoking program. With new members in ENDOW board, we expect it to return to a fully functional status. We are hopeful that membership will generously contribute with funds and help ENDOW achieve it objectives.

Our Alumni website was re-designed last year and which will continue to grow, making it user friendly for the members. We plan to add professional organizations and relevant medical links to the website. The E-list remains vibrant and active with the daily discussions. We expect continuing participation from the membership, vigorous and healthy debates mixed with friendly exchanges and lighthearted banter.

It is my sincere hope that DOGANA continue to function with harmony and unity. I am confident that this will be a triumphant year for DOGANA.

Long live the DOW spirit.

Muslim M Jami, MD, FAAP
President - DOGANA
