ENDOW PRESIDENT
AOA Everyone,
It is my pleasure to inform you that:
1) Drs. Wajid Baig, Wajiha Karatela and Rizwan Ali have been inducted into ENDOW as trustees
2) In unopposed election, Dr. Wajid baig was elected as ENDOW's Vice President and Rizwan Ali as its treasurer. The Board welcomes both into their respective appointments.
3) We have received $73,500 from 35 donors of the class of 1984. All the checks have been cashed and received and earmarked and receipts have been issued to all 35 through email. The input of Iftikhar Hanif, Iqbal jangda and Jamil Farooqui is duly acknowledged.
4) A donation of $2000 has also been received from a well wisher who is NOT a Dowite. This has been logged and earmarked for our endowment fund. The donor has been acknowledged and a receipt provided.
Other classes are encouraged to follow suit of the class of 1984.

VISIT DUHS
ENDOW President Nadeem Zafar (D85) recently visited DUHS on March 18, 19 and 21 and discussed ideas of mutual interest with DUHS Vice Chancellor Professor Masood Hameed. Nadeem was briefed by various members of Professor Hameed's team about ongoing developments at DUHS. He was informed about the structural changes currently being planned for the MBBS course at Dow Medical College. The 5-year curriculum will be split into10 semesters with more consolidated teaching and a greater input from the state of the art technology for medical education and training.
Nadeem also visited the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation where he was extensively briefed about the various facets of this new institute by its director Dr. Nabila Soomro. Nadeem saw children and adults being rehabilitated and was shown the workshop for manufacturing limbs with the help of the Jaipur Group. He then visited the Ojha campus where the new and state of the art Dow Diagnostic and Research and Laboratory (DDRL), directed by Dr. Rafeeq Khanani, is located. He was given a detailed tour of the upcoming radiology facility at this campus where a new CT and MRI have been installed. He was shown the beautifully architectured Institute of Nursing and the neighboring nursing accommodation. Nadeem was then shown the upgraded TB facilities at the Ojha campus, including the separately located residential facilities for patients with multi-drug resistent TB. He was shown the new Dow International Complex, the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology and the plans for new state of the art Gym and Recreational facilities. Nadeem was then introduced to the faculty at the Ojha Campus by Dr. Khanani. The faculty members discussed their ongoing research projects and showed a keen interest in establishing collaborative research with Dowites in the USA.
On March 21st, Nadeem met with Professor Hameed for the second time, who briefed Nadeem about the ongoing and planned projects at DUHS. An area of interest that was central to this discussion was the support Dowites settled in the US could provide DUHS with respect to their plans for developing biotechnology facilities at DUHS and the possibility of developing vaccines. Other areas of interest, that were discussed, include the possibility of developing molecular diagnostic facilities and faculty support for the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Professor Hameed lauded the services of expatriate Dowites and APPNA members who have shown sincere keenness in helping DUHS improve its educational and training facilities. He also hoped for greater cooperation and support from ENDOW. Nadeem thanked him for his kind hospitality and his support for members of DOGANA and APPNA.
1. ENDOW Teleconference- February 26, 2009
ENDOW held its second teleconference of 2009. In this one-hour teleconference, matters relating to ENDOW were extensively over-viewed. Members of ENDOW indicated their satisfaction with the legal status of ENDOW with the state of Missouri and the IRS. There was dissatisfaction with the performance of ENDOW accountant in his inability to provide ENDOW accounts in a timely measure. Remedial measures were discussed to improve accountancy issues in ENDOW. The members also indicated their optimism about DOGANA EC working closely with ENDOW for the two organizations to benefit our alma mater. Expansion of ENDOW board was also discussed as was the upcoming visit of ENDOW president to Pakistan. ENDOW members indicated that they will like to see a closer working relationship between ENDOW and DUHS administration.
2. EnDow is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Sultan Ahmed of UMDNJ as an adviser.
3. I am pleased to reconfirm that ENDOW is in full compliance of the State of MO requirements for our registration with the state and that we continue to be registered with the IRS as a MO-based 501C3 charity. We intend to file the next set of papers (annually due) to the state of MO, when they become due in August 2009.
"Sultan Bhai brings a lot of experience and a personal commitment to ENDOW" indicated Nadeem Zafar, President of ENDOW. Dr. Sultan Ahmed will advise the ENDOW board on legal, administrative and financial matters.
